I thought that the pictures made sense about how this might happen.(not to Cleveland but just in general. Last year Ms.Moy told us about a school sport team that was called the Chinks somewhere in Mid America. Their mascot was a detailed dragon. JUst like Chief, at the UI.
The "Chinks" was the mascot name for the school in Pekin, Illinois. It has been replaced by the Dragon.
BUT, one of my students at UIUC is from Pekin. She said that you can still buy Pekin "Chinks" t-shirts, which are sold underground.
Uni High (at UIUC) travels around this area for sporting events. We go to a lot of basketball games. Near here is a school with a team name "Rajas" and "Rajettes." Their logo is a Raja.
But why would you make something like that if you know that it would hurt people. Are people still fighting the goverment to ban The Chief or did they just forget about it because it isn't in the news anymore how many offensive mascots are left in the USA
people that call races by their bad names are just trying to be cool and funny so people will like them. the meanings of them are just as bad as the people that hear it think and make it.
Stereotypes are mean, obnoxious, and not good for anyone! the only reason people use them is for power over another person. if you want power over them, you're power hungrey, and deserve to be made fun of yourself.

Stereotyping is very deep and very broad.
