Responding to Native American Unit

During the next weeks of class, we will be investigating Cahokians while students in Ms. Anderson's class and Ms. Jacobs' class investigate about Pacific Northwest Native Americans and Wampanoags, respectively.

We'll provide questions for consideration and you should respond with questions, comments, or other issues you'd like us to address in class.

Dear Simoooooooooooooooooone, Spencer and Andrew. Your page was pretty good. Though when i say this, i mean this in a constructive manner. I think there should be a little more info and pictures. It just doesn't have that much pazzzaz. I mean this in the best way possible ok. But overall it was VERY good. Good job.

I learned that the city of Cahokia was put under stress because of its population, and it was advanced for its time. I also learned that the Wampanoag had different types of houses, one for small families and the other for extended families. The Wampanoag were the first to encounter the whites. Why didn't the Wampanoag give the Narragansett some weapons? I liked the layout of the website of the Wampanoag encounters with others.

I enjoyed reading the webpage of maddy and group. I thought that the all the paragraphes were very informative. The only thing that i would comment on is that the spacing was a little off. It was a little hard to read. I liked the pictures though!

Period 8-9 structure in Ms.Jacobs class. It was ok info wise but the layout was not good. It had the pitures interfiring with the words and the words were to close to the end of the page. Other than that it was good.

Period 8-9 Ms. Anderson on the first subject.
It was great information but there were no pitures. Pitures are worth a million words. And the baground was a bad choice.

This letter is to adress the web page done by the group consisting of Spencer Andrew and Simone.

After I read your articles on the structures of the Wampanoag I learned many things. The first thing that I learned while consulting your webpage was that this tribe lived in structures called wetus. Another thing that I learned is that these wetus were constructed first with a wooden frame then covered in planks of wood or bark. The last thing that i will mention that i learned will be the fact that a wetus is the same as a wigwam. These people where somewhat different then that of Cahokia. Rather than living in wigwams the people of Cahokia resided in what we call today long houses. I think it would be apropriate to adress whether or ot they had concern for communal buildings such as large structures for storage. I find that the large clear picture is a very helpful visual presentation. although it is very clear and easy to read i find the plain white backround with a majority of black text is rather simple and a bit of a turn off.

This is a comment adressing the article on the products of the Northwest Pacific Native Americans by Christian Castaneda, Sarah Schacht, Tommy Wile and Hannah Herpst.

I found this article very informative. one of the things that i have learned from reading it is that this tribe was very accustomed to wearing many masks. Another thing that i was able to learn was that Totem poles actualy are to represent family trees. One last thing that i will mention that i have learned is that boxes of the dead were put in a specific building of the dead that could be as large as a normal home. I find that the people of Cahokia did not in fact construct totme poles unlike the Northwest Pacific Native Americans. I thought that it might have been a helpful to add something on what kind of wood the totme poles were made out of and how long it would usually take. Overall i find the visual and formatted effect quite pleasing however, I think that it might be helpful if you would add some pictures for topics other then those of Christian. I also think it would be good if you made the title of the entire webpage easier to distinguish.

Ms. Jacobs period 3-4 products, Lizzie!

1)I learned that in their spare time they made bells, drew on rocks, made pots and vases. I learned that they used red clay to make thheir pottery. I also learned that Wamoum belts usually told a story about the family.
2) The Cahokians also made pottery that was used for functional purposes as well as artistic purposes.
3) What other resources were used besides food, rocks, and wood?
4) I like the layout but i felt like there werent enough pictures. The black on th blue is also a little much.

Ms. Anderson period 8-9 Art and Prodducts, Lizzie!!

1) I learned that the Pacific North West Indians made clothing out of baskets. I learned that Totem poles were used as grave markers and sometimes had coffins carved into the top. I also learned that the canoes that they had were made out of hallowed ceder trees.
2) The Cahokians didnot have totempoles.
3) What did the canoes look like?
4) I like the colors and layout but i would like more pictures!
