I am doing this paragraph on similarities/connections and differences between American Born Chinese and Poor in a land of plenty. The first thing I want to say is that I first want to talk about how in Poor in a Land of Plenty the box that these poor and homeless people are in can be created by society or by themselves, for example, a way it can be created by themselves is they don't pay attention to their financial issues and next thing they know they're out on the the streets begging for pennies or in a small apartment struggling to feed themselves. A way a box can be made by society for them is that they get layed-off from their job because of the government's current financial status and they start to struggle with finding a job. American Born Chinese is different from the boxes in Poor in a land Plenty in the way that the boxes in that book are always caused by society, for example, The Monkey King is in a box because people think monkeys are dirty animals, but the Monkey King did not choose to be a monkey, Tze-Yo-Tzuh chose for him to be a monkey. These characters may or may not escape from their boxes which is another difference about them because the Monkey King mainly has to rely on society changing it's views about monkeys and the people Poor in the Land of Plenty mainly have to depend on themselves to get out of their boxes.
